The real reason you feel overwhelmed...

And it’s not what you think.

Life is full. You are running on autopilot, getting through the many to-do lists that never seem to end. Your mind is racing with what feels like one hundred tabs open at the same time, trying to remember everything you need to do for everyone else. Most of the time you feel like you are doing a million different things, but not doing any of them well.

They say a messy house is a sign of a messy mind, but even when the housework is done, your mind still feels chaotic or foggy. And the body feels depleted. When you compare your life to others, you wonder how they keep it all together. What are you doing wrong?

Perhaps the answer isn’t about doing more of the “right” things, but about clearing what no longer belongs there. Clearing your mind of the mental clutter that constantly takes up space in your internal world: overthinking, decision fatigue, mental load, constant worrying, and ruminating.

In yoga, the term Saucha refers to cleanliness or purity. It does not just apply to your physical environment, but also to the busy, monkey mind.

So often we create more mental clutter through overthinking. Replaying conversations, worrying about what might happen, analysing every decision, and carrying thoughts long after they are useful. The mind keeps circling the same stories, and before long, there is no room for clarity.

This kind of internal noise is exhausting. It drains energy just as much as physical busyness, yet it often goes unnoticed because it becomes normal.

Saucha asks us to notice what we are holding mentally. Which thoughts are helping, and which are simply taking up space? Because sometimes peace is not about changing your whole life, but about clearing the thoughts that stop you from experiencing the life you already have.

A big shift for me came when I slowed down and began to notice my inner dialogue. It was when I actually created space for myself that I realised the negative talk that had been existing in the background of my everyday life was causing me more unnecessary stress and anxiety.

In challenging times, so many of us worry about future events that may not even eventuate, or we ruminate about what has happened, what we could have done, what we should have said.

Yoga and meditation can provide that space to reconnect with yourself, notice what is happening beneath the surface, and return to the present moment.

I have used this many times during challenging periods in my life. One example was leading up to the birth of my son. I noticed how easily my mind could spiral into fear, thinking about labour, birth, and everything that could go wrong.

At some point, I made a conscious decision to let go of replaying those fears. If something difficult was going to happen, I would face it when it came. I was not willing to live through it repeatedly in my mind before it had even happened.

That awareness created space. It allowed me to come back to what was actually true in that moment, rather than staying trapped in stories about what might happen.

You can create space in moments of stillness. Stillness allows the noise to settle enough that what matters becomes obvious.

When you stop filling every spare moment, you may realise:

  • what is draining you

  • what you have outgrown

  • what you miss

  • what you are craving

  • what you have been avoiding

  • what you actually want more of

Stillness often brings clarity that busyness blocks.

Yoga creates a rare pause. Not because every class gives life-changing answers, but because when the body slows and attention turns inward, many women notice how much they have been carrying.

Sometimes that awareness leads to subtle shifts. Sometimes it changes major life decisions. But it often starts with one simple thing: space.

Sometimes what you are searching for isn’t something new to add. It is what becomes visible when there is finally enough space to notice it.

If you are feeling the call to slow down, become more aware, and clear the mental clutter in your life, we would love you to join us at one of our classes, events or retreats.
